Nita M. Lowey 21CCLC Program

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has granted Bemidji Area Schools funding from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2028 to support the creation and expansion of community learning centers located at J.W. Smith Elementary School, Bemidji Middle School, and Bemidji High School to provide high-quality academic support, enrichment and youth development programs during non-school hours and summers.

The purpose of this grant funding is to:

A. provide opportunities for out-of-school time academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students, particularly student who attend high poverty, low-performing schools, to meet State and local student performance standards in core academic subjects such as reading and mathematics;

B. offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities, technology programs, and character education programs, that are designed to reinforce and compliment the regular academic program of participating students; and,

C. offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for literacy and related educational development.
